Loving someone else more than yourself

Are we naturally wired to love others more than ourselves, I wonder? I mean, it's cetainly easier to do so, isn't it? No matter who the person is, loving someone for their joy, love or humanity is so much easier than being with ourselves. That's why so many people are in caring professions, I think. It means they can enjoy loving without any shame. Nothing deflects shame like altruism.

This may be so. But how will what I just wrote help pay next months' rent?
