Carrying on with my little obsession about image, I had some thoughts about craziness. It's funny how scared we can be of crazy people. Is it their spirit that bothers us most? I mean, who are we that some exterior image is what we are inside? Am I a decent, honest, and successul person because I wear a suit and tie? Am I wealthy and powerful, because I'm driving an expensive car? Am I to be trusted because I wear a preist's outfit, or have a sensible email address, or nice stationery? People are conned every moment of every day by the images that others portray. Doctors everywhere depend on the illusions and accepted beliefs that their powers are godlike. Humanity rolls on, based on a set of illusions.
Human beings are no different to animals. Just as a cat will be excited by a piece of string being pulled along, or a finger under a bedsheet, human beings can be manipulated by small fractions of images. One dimensional pornographic images, and a person is sexually aroused. Simple use of the imagination places a person into a false reality, merely because he accepts a tiny aspect of reality as a whole.
These are startlingly important and powerful facts about who we are as human beings and what we do. Advertising depends on these little psychological quirks in humans. We become moved by simple shapes and form, emotional lemmings that we are. The degree of our blindness is truly breathtaking.
And so I act crazy, seeking like minded souls. People who recognise the adsurdity of the illusions that so many of us accept as reality.
Now and again, and for some limited time, I play the game, too. When everyone else is dancing the tango, there seems little point in doing cartwheels on the dancefloor, after all.
Mot sure I really communicated what I wanted to in the above post. In fact I know I didn't. I just wanted to say that image is all about illusion and belief, that's all. Things are necessarily what they seem to be, and "The Devil hath power to assume a pleasing shape"
