Well, if you've been following my videos on the making of this bust of Samuel Beckett, this is how far it's got. It'd just drying before I fire it then put a patina on it. I broke a little bit of his ear off as I was setting it up for the photo, so I'll probably have to do something with that later.
Not entirely happy with his right eye, but I got to a point with it where I couldn't be bothered to go any further with it.
Besides, perfection's so boring, isn't it?

It's shit.
Thank you for your comment.
Of course, many people think Picasso
s shit, too...
Not that I'm a Picasso, of course!
I think it's rather good
So do I.
Gosh! More comments about this than any of the others.
I'm really coming to terms with what comments mean, now. Criticism, to be more precise. Once upon a time I'd have seen a comment like the first one and felt diminished, but I realise now that it was only my poorly built self esteem that made it so.
Art really is subjective, so at the end of the day whether someone considers something shit ir irrelevent, as it's just an illusion either way. One person may think my piece is shit; another may think it's the greatest thing since chicken soup.
Realising this is a massive breakthrough for me, and is extremely liberating.
Doesn't stop it from being shit though.
Ah! But it does. Because I know that some unsophisticated, impefect part of myself did it.
It's what it is. And that's what defines art. It's shit to you, perhaps, just as a lot of rap, for example, is shit to me. But to some others, the rap songs I detest are songs they think are great.
You might be ugly in my eyes, but in the eyes of someone else, you might actually be beautiful.
It's all in the eye of the beholder. Not having te perfect in everyone's eyes is so liberating. You should try it, whoever you are!
